Due to an upcoming retirement, we are recruiting a Financial Controller on behalf of West Wawanosh Mutual Insurance Company (WWMIC). This is a unique opportunity to take on a senior leadership role in a company that is rooted in community, financially sound and continuing to grow.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will serve as a trusted strategic business advisor, providing meaningful analysis, strategic viewpoints, and financial reporting to support WWMIC and their Board of Directors. As a key member of the senior leadership team of three, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s financial strategy and future success.

In this role, you will oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, ensuring effective internal and external controls are in place and adhered to. You will lead the budgeting process, manage payroll and collaborate on surplus investment decisions to maximize returns. You will work with the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) to ensure WWMIC is in line with all regulatory compliance. Furthermore, you will provide long-term sustainable value by managing a robust risk framework, and actively monitoring financial performance through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

With 25 employees, WWMIC currently underwrites approximately $25 million in gross written premium and has a sizable surplus. Located in beautiful Goderich, Ontario, WWMIC is a fully licensed multi-line insurer for commercial, farm, residential, and automobiles to communities such as Blyth, Goderich, Seaforth, Lucknow, Kincardine, Hanover, Owen Sound, Bracebridge, and Parry Sound. Who You Are

  • High-Potential CPA: You hold CPA credentials (or equivalent), with solid IFRS knowledge, have a proven track record in fiscal management and enjoy communicating financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

  • Strategic Thinker: You excel at providing strategic insights and have a knack for aligning financial plans with organizational goals.

  • Collaborative Communicator: You thrive in a team-oriented environment and excel at simplifying complex information to effectively communicate to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Board Experience: You have previous experience working with the Board of Directors.
  • Community-Minded: You have a demonstrated passion for community involvement.
  • Tech-Savvy: You are proficient in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills.
  • Licensed and Mobile: You have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

 

Compensation

Compensation will be commensurate with background and experience and will include a base salary and a comprehensive benefit package.
